A Farmer’s Life

A Creative Teacher:

I loved staying with my artistic grandmother, Edith Mary Lacey Brayshaw (Dolly), during the school holidays.

We visited city friends, libraries, art galleries and museums.

We cooked exotic meals, stitched and knitted, played with paper crepe and clay and shopped at the bakeries and green grocers of the Village. And battled the dumping waves of Cottesloe beach.

Art Adrift:

Without true direction I sailed from high school art to short courses at technical colleges, regional TAFE and art workshops.

Inspired By:

West Australian artists Karen McKay, Leon Pericles, Dreyfus Gates, Bronwen Newbury, Indra Geidens, Bo Laidler, Judith Lampbert, John Garde and the works of Fred Williams, Hans Heysen and other well-known Australian artists inspire me.

Artful Subjects:

Great Southern skies, graceful woodlands, farmland, paddocks peppered with cattle and sheep, bleached salty creeks, broken fence lines, remote Australian landscapes, burnt orange breakaways and the silent art of deep green rivers are some of my favourite subjects.
